Xiaomi releases plenty of phones each and every year, but it’s the company’s flagships that usually get most of the attention.
And given the strength of the 13 and 13 Pro in 2023, there’s been plenty of excitement for their successors. Both the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro have now launched in China, so we know what to expect when they arrive in Europe.
However, it is possible that only one will be announced at the upcoming global launch event. Here’s everything you need to know.
When will the Xiaomi 14 be released?
The Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro were officially unveiled in China on 26 October 2023. However, that’s not really relevant if you’re based in Europe.
In recent years, it’s taken around three months for the phones to be released internationally:
- Xiaomi 13 – December 2022 (China), March 2023 (global)
- Xiaomi 12 – December 2021 (China), March 2022 (global)
The gap will be slightly longer this year, but Xiaomi has confirmed that the 14 series will get their global launch just before MWC in Barcelona in late February:
But will that include the Xiaomi 14 Pro? While the 13 Pro was released in Europe, Xiaomiui believes there’ll be no global launch for the 14 Pro.
While the Xiaomi 13 Ultra was released in Europe, it never came to the UK. So there’s a chance that the regular Xiaomi 14 will be the only model in the series to be released globally.
But, as with all Xiaomi phones, don’t expect the whole 14 series to ever be sold in the US. Your best bet there will be to try and import one.
How much will the Xiaomi 14 cost?
Xiaomi has unveiled full pricing for the 14 and 14 Pro in China. Here are the full details, alongside rough £ and € conversions:
Xiaomi 14
- 8/256GB: CNY 3,999 (approx. £450/€520)
- 12/256GB model: CNY 4,299 (approx. £480/€560)
- 6/512GB model: CNY 4,599 (approx. £520/€600)
- 16GB/1TB model: CNY 4,999 (approx. £560/€650)
Xiaomi 14 Pro
- 12/256GB model: CNY 4,999 (approx. £560/€650)
- 16/512GB model: CNY 5,499 (approx. £620/€710)
- 16GB/1TB model: CNY 5,999 (approx. £680/€780)
But don’t pay too much attention to those converted figures – it’d be a huge surprise for the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro to be so cheap.
More realistic figures are the starting prices of models in the Xiaomi 13 series:
- Xiaomi 13 – £849/€999
- Xiaomi 13 Pro – £1,099/€1,299
- Xiaomi 13 Lite – £449/€499
- Xiaomi 13 Ultra – €1499
However, we still have to wait for the official pricing to be sure.
What specs and features will the Xiaomi 14 have?
The Chinese launch of the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro reveals all the key specs and features that are expected to arrive on the global versions (if both launch). But there’s a chance some of these will change.
Let’s start with what they have in common. Both the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro are equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Qualcomm’s latest and greatest chipset. They also run Xiaomi’s new HyperOS skin (replacing MIUI) over Android 14, and feature the fastest RAM (LPDDR5X) and internal storage (UFS 4.0) standards.
But there are also quite a few differences between them.
Xiaomi 14
The Xiaomi 14 boasts a 6.36in OLED display, with a resolution of 2670×1200 pixels, and LTPO tech enabling a variable refresh rate ranging from 1-120Hz. It also offers a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, and the display is safeguarded by Gorilla Glass Victus. Notably, its bezels are just 1.71mm thick.
On the back, the Xiaomi 14 features three Leica Summilux cameras. The main sensor is a 50Mp sensor with an f/1.6 aperture and optical image stabilization. A 50Mp ultrawide is at f/2.2, and provides a 122° field of view. It’s joined by a 50Mp telephoto lens, complete with 3.2x optical zoom.
Xiaomi
On the front, there’s a 32Mp selfie camera in the usual hole-punch in the centre of the top of the display.
The Xiaomi 14 is powered by a 4,610mAh battery, supported by a speedy 90W wired charging option and 50W wireless charging. Notably, it also comes with an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
Xiaomi 14 Pro
The standout feature of the Xiaomi 14 Pro is its larger screen, which subtly curves at the edges. This screen is the same LTPO OLED panel but measures 6.73in and boasts a higher 1440×3200 resolution. However, the refresh rate remains at 1-120Hz, and the peak brightness stays at 3,000 nits.
Regarding the camera setup, the Xiaomi 14 Pro closely mirrors its counterpart with a similar square camera island and three Leica Summilux lenses. But while the main lens is still 50Mp and with optical image stabilisation, its aperture is f/1.42.
The 50Mp, 3.2x telephoto sensor is identical to the regular 14, but the 50Mp ultrawide misses out on autofocus (AF) and the better macro images it enables.
Elsewhere, the 14 Pro is equipped with a 4,880mAh battery and supports 120W wired charging, with Xiaomi claiming a full charge in just 18 minutes. Similar to its smaller counterpart, it also offers 50W fast wireless charging. And the IP68 rating is still here.
Xiaomi 14 Ultra
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is yet to be announced anywhere, but plenty of specs and features are rumoured,
It’s is expected to feature the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset as its counterparts. On the display front, a 2K panel with slight curves on the edges is likely.
In terms of software, like other Xiaomi 14 phones, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra will almost certainly run on Android 14-based HyperOS.
According to Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station, the the phone is expected to boast four 50Mp cameras, including a faster f/1.6-f/4.0 variable aperture on the main sensor. The primary sensor is expected to be accompanied by a 50Mp ultrawide sensor, 50Mp 3x zoom sensor with macro mode, and another 50Mp 5x zoom sensor.
Xiaomi has also included a variable aperture solution on the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro – it’s a two-step lens allows toggling between f/1.4 and f/4.0. Although the f/1.6 stop on the Ultra is marginally slower, it is likely to compensate with a significantly larger sensor. This advancement is poised to surpass the f/1.9 aperture found on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra.
An earlier report from the same leaker suggested the inclusion of a Sony LYT-900 sensor for the main camera of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. This rumour, coupled with a new Xiaomi feature enabling the lens to dynamically adjust during video recording based on the available light, could potentially lead to significant enhancements in the camera capabilities of the Ultra.
More will be revealed once the phones arrive in Europe. In the meantime, see our guide to the best Android phones to see what they’ll be up against.
